Emilia Clarke's travel beauty tips

What is your jet-lag cure?

‘As soon as I land, I take off my shoes and socks and walk around on the grass to ground myself and acclimatise to the area. The second thing I do is go swimming – in the sea is ideal.’

Which product would you take to a desert island?

‘Mascara is my thing; it’s all I need. My favourite is Clinique’s High Impact Mascara.’

How do you look after your hair in the sun?

‘I let it dry naturally. I’m constantly in the sea, so I only ever rinse it out and put it in a ponytail. When I get home, my hair looks healthier from not having had any heat or styling.’

Where in the world is your ultimate escape?

‘My all-time favourite destination is Italy. I go every year and visit a different place each time. Most recently it was the Amalfi coast. Positano is breathtaking.’

Favourite overseas pharmacy?

‘French and Italian ones are the best – you can always pick up a great sunscreen. Plus, they have a cure for everything so I never need to visit a doctor.’

Your pre-travel treatment?

‘I book a leg wax before every holiday, and get my eyebrows threaded.’

A go-to British beauty product?

Sarah Chapman’s Facialift Sculpting Facial Massager. It drains away toxins and reduces puffiness – great for frequent fliers – and provides the results of a facial.’

The first thing you do in your hotel room?

‘Check out the room-service menu!’

What nail polish do you wear on holiday?

OPI’s Nail Lacquer – when I’m away, I like light shades such as Alpine Snow that pump up my tan.’

What’s always in your hand luggage?

‘A good book. I just finished Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason, which made me laugh and cry. I loved it so much – I need to read it again.’

Your must-pack perfume?

‘My holiday scent is Santal 33 Eau De Parfum by Le Labo. It’s gorgeous and musky, with smoky sandalwood, cardamom and iris.’

Do you have a ritual when flying?

‘When I get on the plane I change into my pyjamas so I can relax. Then, when I land, my clothes aren’t wrinkled and I feel refreshed.’

Any in-flight beauty routines?

‘I take my make-up off, so my skin can breathe as much as possible, and apply Clinique’s Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, containing hyaluronic acid and aloe. It glides on and gives my skin everything it needs.’

Your favourite hotel?

‘I like the Firmdale group, which owns the Ham Yard and Haymarket Hotels in London and The Whitby and Crosby Street Hotels in New York. The design of each room is incredible.’
